officers slain in oakland on saturday

so on Saturday afternoon, I was driving on the freeway with my dad,  when 3 cop cars came from behind me. And in my head i was thinking what any typical person would think when 3 cop cars are behind you: dannng, i better make SURE i am not speeding!! but i guess a lot of times thats all i think of when i see cops. Cops who enforce the law, sometimes almost excessively.
This morning I woke up and my dad handed me the newspaper, and on the front page was of a huge picture with the headlines: OFFICERS SLAIN - Gunman shot, killed after massive manhunt, ending bloody afternoon in Oakland.
The officers I saw driving on the freeway yesterday were most likely the back up unit, who would have known that they would not have made it out alive that day.
5 officers shot, 3 pronounced dead, 1 later pronounced to be brain dead, another officer was grazed in the head and shot in the shoulder. all of them are in their 30s-40s, with families to take care of. well below is more info if ur interested in readin up on it.

lotta times ppl forget to be thankful that we have cops protecting/patrolling our neighborhoods. even if you may think cops in davis or piedmont are nothing but lazy donut eating cops, who hide behind bushes ready to ticket you, think again. our community is safe because we have these cops who are willing to put their lives out on the line to save and protect our communities.

please be praying for their families as well as the violence in Oakland

Lovelle Mixon, 26, was frustrated with parole system

"But when he was stopped Saturday afternoon by two Oakland Police motorcycle police officers, Mixon apparently decided prison was not where he wanted to be. He shot at the officers killing both. Mixon then barricaded himself in his sister's apartment and killed two more officers as they tried to arrest him

Five veteran officers were shot by the same suspect in two related events Saturday afternoon. Sgts. Mark Dunakin, 40, of Tracy; Erv Romans, 43, of Danville; and Dan Sakai, 35, of Castro Valley, died at Highland Hospital minutes after they arrived. Motorcycle officer John Hege, 41, of Concord, was pronounced brain-dead at Highland Hospital on Sunday morning, said police spokesman Jeff Thomason. A fifth officer, whose name was withheld by authorities, was grazed in the head and a

bullet entered and exited his shoulder, Thomason said.

Police officers, Jordan said, "are all feeling the same pain, rookies and veterans alike, regardless of assignment."

The officers were shot in a chain of events that started in East Oakland on Saturday afternoon following a traffic stop of a man who turned out to be wanted parolee named Lovelle Mixon, 26. Mixon was wanted on a no-bail warrant for violating his parole for a prior conviction of assault with a deadly weapon.

Mixon opened fire with a handgun on Dunakin and Hege during the stop in the 7400 block of MacArthur Boulevard about 1:05 p.m., police said. He then fled to a nearby apartment on 74th Avenue. Police think he was out of the car when he shot the officers.

Oakland police SWAT team members tried unsuccessfully to communicate with Mixon and at 3 p.m. fired flash grenades into the apartment before entering.

"Our hearts go out the families," of the slain officers, he said "These officers left their homes tonight expecting to return but they did not. "

"This is unbelievable," said City Councilman Ignacio De La Fuente. "The officers were just doing their jobs to protect their community. ... They went in that building and paid the ultimate price. All of us are mourning."

another article that i read up on was with the heading: "Teenage dating violence, a painful, silent epidemic"

I know i mentioned battered women b4, but why is it so frekin common for men to batter women. do we need vivid descriptions written in a newspaper to have us think twice about these issues? another thing that needs to be taught and implemented into curriculum is how to have a healthy relationship. if you wish to read up on this article:

It all started in a haze of happiness: A new guy, a new love, sweet affection and blinding jealousy.

It ended a few weeks later on an Oakland hillside in the nightmarish glare of ambulance lights, police sirens and so much blood.

"he still hears the sound of his closest friend, whimpering as she struggled to crawl away from her attacker - a boy who claimed to love her. Ramos saw the early signs, the brusing and it filled him with rage. But his friend begged him not to say anything.

"Ramos was never sure he was doing the right thing. And that night at the crime scene, the girl's family told him they never wanted to see his face"
