officers slain in oakland on saturday

so on Saturday afternoon, I was driving on the freeway with my dad,  when 3 cop cars came from behind me. And in my head i was thinking what any typical person would think when 3 cop cars are behind you: dannng, i better make SURE i am not speeding!! but i guess a lot of times thats all i think of when i see cops. Cops who enforce the law, sometimes almost excessively.
This morning I woke up and my dad handed me the newspaper, and on the front page was of a huge picture with the headlines: OFFICERS SLAIN - Gunman shot, killed after massive manhunt, ending bloody afternoon in Oakland.
The officers I saw driving on the freeway yesterday were most likely the back up unit, who would have known that they would not have made it out alive that day.
5 officers shot, 3 pronounced dead, 1 later pronounced to be brain dead, another officer was grazed in the head and shot in the shoulder. all of them are in their 30s-40s, with families to take care of. well below is more info if ur interested in readin up on it.

lotta times ppl forget to be thankful that we have cops protecting/patrolling our neighborhoods. even if you may think cops in davis or piedmont are nothing but lazy donut eating cops, who hide behind bushes ready to ticket you, think again. our community is safe because we have these cops who are willing to put their lives out on the line to save and protect our communities.

please be praying for their families as well as the violence in Oakland

Lovelle Mixon, 26, was frustrated with parole system

"But when he was stopped Saturday afternoon by two Oakland Police motorcycle police officers, Mixon apparently decided prison was not where he wanted to be. He shot at the officers killing both. Mixon then barricaded himself in his sister's apartment and killed two more officers as they tried to arrest him

http://www.insidebayarea.com/oaklandtribune/ci_11972255

Five veteran officers were shot by the same suspect in two related events Saturday afternoon. Sgts. Mark Dunakin, 40, of Tracy; Erv Romans, 43, of Danville; and Dan Sakai, 35, of Castro Valley, died at Highland Hospital minutes after they arrived. Motorcycle officer John Hege, 41, of Concord, was pronounced brain-dead at Highland Hospital on Sunday morning, said police spokesman Jeff Thomason. A fifth officer, whose name was withheld by authorities, was grazed in the head and a

bullet entered and exited his shoulder, Thomason said.

Police officers, Jordan said, "are all feeling the same pain, rookies and veterans alike, regardless of assignment."

The officers were shot in a chain of events that started in East Oakland on Saturday afternoon following a traffic stop of a man who turned out to be wanted parolee named Lovelle Mixon, 26. Mixon was wanted on a no-bail warrant for violating his parole for a prior conviction of assault with a deadly weapon.

Mixon opened fire with a handgun on Dunakin and Hege during the stop in the 7400 block of MacArthur Boulevard about 1:05 p.m., police said. He then fled to a nearby apartment on 74th Avenue. Police think he was out of the car when he shot the officers.

Oakland police SWAT team members tried unsuccessfully to communicate with Mixon and at 3 p.m. fired flash grenades into the apartment before entering.

"Our hearts go out the families," of the slain officers, he said "These officers left their homes tonight expecting to return but they did not. "

"This is unbelievable," said City Councilman Ignacio De La Fuente. "The officers were just doing their jobs to protect their community. ... They went in that building and paid the ultimate price. All of us are mourning."

another article that i read up on was with the heading: "Teenage dating violence, a painful, silent epidemic"

I know i mentioned battered women b4, but why is it so frekin common for men to batter women. do we need vivid descriptions written in a newspaper to have us think twice about these issues? another thing that needs to be taught and implemented into curriculum is how to have a healthy relationship. if you wish to read up on this article:

____________________________________________________________________________

http://www.insidebayarea.com/search/ci_11972223?IADID=Search-www.insidebayarea.com-www.insidebayarea.com

It all started in a haze of happiness: A new guy, a new love, sweet affection and blinding jealousy.

It ended a few weeks later on an Oakland hillside in the nightmarish glare of ambulance lights, police sirens and so much blood.

"he still hears the sound of his closest friend, whimpering as she struggled to crawl away from her attacker - a boy who claimed to love her. Ramos saw the early signs, the brusing and it filled him with rage. But his friend begged him not to say anything.

"Ramos was never sure he was doing the right thing. And that night at the crime scene, the girl's family told him they never wanted to see his face"

some "foood" for thought

hahahah, omgosh i am SO lame, hahaha, i just saw this on yahoo news and was disgusted, hahaha...well anyways, enjoy! :P

http://food.yahoo.com/blog/hungrygirl/28079/attack-of-the-1000-calorie-meals/

Olive Garden - Fettuccine Alfredo
1,220 calories, 75g fat, 1,350mg sodium, 99g carbs

Mind you, this is the PLAIN Fettuccine Alfredo -- no chicken or shrimp on top. All carbs and fat, with no real nutritional value to speak of. That's a noodle-tastrophe if we've ever seen one!

Instead... If you need pasta, stick to their Linguine alla Marinara (430 calories and 6g fat). Or stay home and make our Fettuccine Hungry Girlfredo. You'll be satisfied and SOOOO much better off.

Red Lobster - Admiral's Feast
1,506 calories, 93.4g fat, 4,662mg sodium, 101g carbs

People, meet ginormous plate of deep-fried seafood. Ginormous plate of deep-fried seafood, meet people. Okay, now that you've been introduced, we hope you never see each other again.

Instead... Get something off the LightHouse or Wood-Fire Grill menu, or get some fresh fish grilled or broiled. Much lighter. A full portion of grilled sole with broccoli has 245 calories and 3.5g fat, and the Garlic Grilled Jumbo Shrimp has 365 calories and 6g fat.

Macaroni Grill - Parmesan-Crusted Sole

2,190 calories, 141g fat, 145g carbs, 2,980mg sodium, 9g fiber, 82g protein

At first glance, this looks like it would be a smart choice but, AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH, it's actually ridiculously over-caloried and scary. 141 grams of fat?! 2,190 calories??? 2,980mg sodium?!?! This may be the most offensive fish dish in the history of the world. Not kidding.

Instead...
Go somewhere else. Seriously. Or make some of Hungry Girl's De-Lish Fish 'n Chips in the safety of your own home. Mmmmmm!

Applebee's - Crispy Orange Chicken Bowl

1,910 calories

How sad is it that this bowl of poultry has more calories than the Applebee's Brewtus Steak Burger (with bacon and cheese) and a side of fries? Um, VERY. Any veggies are lost under deep-fried chicken in a sugary glaze, crispy noodles, and rice. Eeeks.

Instead... Get a half-size order (it's STILL big!) of the Oriental Grilled Chicken Salad for 350 calories. And if you want the Oriental Vinaigrette dressing, get it on the side, then DIP (don't pour), and use it sparingly -- a half-size portion of that dressing still has 290 calories. On second thought, you may want to bring your own dressing.

Attack of the 1,210-Calorie Veggie Omelette!

At IHOP, you might think ordering the spinach and mushroom omelette is a good idea -- but this egg disaster has a shocking 1,210 calories (eeeks!). Instead, try HG's Ginormous Oven-Baked Omelette -- you can have a giant piece of our protein-packed omelette for just 140 calories and 3g fat! An added bonus? You can make it the night before and then simply heat 'n' eat in the AM!

79-Grams-of-Fat French Toast!

Even if you're DYING for French toast, avoid Denny's Fabulous French Toast Platter at all costs. This freaky breakfast plate will cost you 1,261 calories and 79g fat! Instead of feasting on this diet dud, try HG's Cinnamonlicious French Toast. It has just 170 calories and 1g fat. And if you crave the sausage links and bacon slices this platter comes with, go for Morningstar Farms' Sausage Links (2 links = 80 calories and 3g fat) and Jennie-O's Extra Lean Turkey Bacon (2 slices = 40 calories and 1g fat). Then finish it off with sugar-free pancake syrup!

Morning Muffin Mayhem!

McDonald's regular Egg McMuffin has 300 calories and 12g fat. For a tiny little muffin? And if you slip up and order the one with sausage, you'll be gobbling up 450 calories and 27g fat. YIKES!! Try HG's Egga Muffin instead, for only 165 calories and 1.5g fat.

600-Calorie B-Fast Sandwich Alert!

Subway may be known for its low-fat sub menu, but think twice before grabbing the sandwich chain's 6-inch Chipotle Steak and Cheese Breakfast Omelet Sandwich. That meaty monstrosity has 600 calories and 32 grams of fat! If you wanna go Southwestern, you'd be way better off with HG's Bueno Breakfast Burrito, with only 170 calories and 5g fat.

Slam Don't! (Denny's 1,040-Calorie Dud!)

So you're starving ... and you order up Denny's Lumberjack Slam with hash browns. (The thing already includes pancakes, ham, bacon, sausage, AND eggs!) How can we say this politely -- BAD IDEA!!! This massive morning mistake is loaded with 1,040 calories and 53g fat! If you crave a little bit of everything, why not whip up our Super Duper Veggie Scramble (only 150 calories and 5g fat), HG's Very Blueberry Pancakes (201 calories and 2g fat), and our Butternut Hash Browns (85 calories and 1g fat)? ALL of that would cost you only 436 calories and 8g fat -- that's less than HALF the calories and EIGHTY FIVE percent less fat than Denny's Lumberjack disaster!

interesting stuff yah????

Battered women

Male domination over women

women powerless, isolated, without a voice, without status, society does not care about them

the men often may fit into society very well, and may even be very involved in the community. no one would suspect that these men batter women

so i watched a film in my women's studies class about battered women and it was honestly a very sad film to watch hmm, guess i ll share lil bit bout it:

so a common pattern that seemed to form for male abusers is that the man often first isolates the woman, and cuts out all her close ties in life, strips away her close friends, sometimes even her family.  Then the woman’s whole worth, trust, and her every move, solely depends on him for anything and everything because she has no one else. the abuser often may have had developed some sort of self esteem problem growing up, perhaps a rough family background, that they need some sort of validation, so he beats the woman he supposedly cares about (often out of stress, anger, or a heated argument)  to “put them in their place” . He would say things like "no one else wants you, I'm all that you got " taking away all the worth that the woman had. She soon would begin to believe that he, indeed had her best interests at heart, and that she really was worth nothing. She would believe that she could not live without him, and that no one else can ever care about her as much as he did. Until she finally gets beat bad enough to realize that maybe he doesn’t. and at that point it sucks, because even though these women often know they are in danger, they cannot get out of this trap that they are in. if nothing is done, women have to endure a painful cycle of psychological, emotional, physical damage

In the cases of the disabled women, it is sometimes even more detrimental. The abuser could abuse the disabled women by simply just leaving her on the toilet for hours b/c she cannot get up herself, or he could find some way to humiliate her in public.

Often people blame the victim, and say stuff like "well if you were in an abusive relationship, why dont you just leave or get out of it?" then it is followed by, if they already had nothing, where would you have them go? if they do leave, not only would they not have the financial support that the abuser offered, but they may be placing their friends, children, or even their parents in danger.  at this point many times, the women are stuck, knowing that any move they make may cost them dearly, because their entire life is already wrapped and totally in control of the man.
many women do not press charges because sometimes they feel too much guilt for turning their abuser in and begin to have second thoughts since he was what still provided her “her basic worth”, other times, its out of fear that they will get beaten even more by their abuser if he found out

When the judges/police do nothing, they are screwing the women over. When they look at the woman who has no social status, who cannot speak English, who is mentally or physically disabled, who has no education, they often can be swayed by the abuser who has great English, who has a greencard, who is very capable and already a part of society.

Some of the social workers who work with battered women say that often they see certain women who are being abused, and deep down they know that  if nothing is done, the women will die, and often times, nothing is done, and they do get beat to death.

some of the women in the video  even had the mentality at one point in their lives that they would rather “kill themselves before the abusers did”

The film I watched was on battery of women in the US, I cannot imagine how much worse it is in 3rd world countries.

battery of women happens way more than people think. its only because the women who get battered often are not valued in society, that it is often easy to dismiss the bad news.

I know that was a frekin long post, but I’ve just been thinking about that video for awhile, so yeaa, there goes my train of thought again. There is still a lot of injustice in the world. Please be praying for them to find hope and get help.

perspectives

haha duuude, perspectives class is seriously sooo frekin amazing, i think i might just have to start advertising it everywhere i go soon. haha. it is seriously life changing and incredibly AWESOME and really gives a whole NEW perspective of how to look at the Bible. I like how in the reading it says, many ppl use the Bible as a self help book, but maybe the Bible is really more about God and less about us. I realize that so much of how i see things keeps revolving around me, GOd's love story to me, even how PGee was saying that worship service is often focused on what I can get out of it, but its like no, its about worshiping God, its about ultimately bringing glory to God.
This perspectives class begins with God's promise to Abraham, that "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you" Gen 12:2-3 and you may ask well who is this God? and that is what gen 1-12 is for, its a setup to illustrate who God is, the Creator of the Universe, and it answers the question of who is blessing Abraham, and ultimately everyone else.
omgosh this class is so packed full of good stuff i think i can write pages and pages of stuff to share haha, or when ppl ask me how I like this class i am speechless b/c i do not know where to begin of "what i am learning" because there is too much stuff!

anyways, so i am learning how much things are NOt about me, but about God. God blesses Abraham, and says that He will make Abraham into a great nation, and will make his name great, all of which is not so that Abraham may be famous or even for Abraham's pride sake, but ultimately for everyone, so that God's mission can be fulfilled. He blesses Abraham SOO that he could be a blessing to OTHERS. and i think hmmm, how often do we hord our blessings to ourselves, or take pride in what we are blessed with, and many times we just see the statement that God blesses Abraham, and thats it, but its SO WE COULD BLESS OTHERS haha, this is only the beginning of God's promise and is a pivotal point which sets up the rest of the Bible. This promise that God made to Abraham will be fulfilled throughout the rest of the Bible, in the Immediate, Intermediate and Ultimate Fulfillment. in terms of Blessings, Land, and Posterity.

triple fulfillment:

1. immediate fulfillment (historical fulfillment of Israel): "the descendants of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong; so that the land was filled with them" (Ex 1:7; Acts 7:17)

2. intermediate fulfillment (gospel fulfillment through Christ): Jesus the Messiah= Seed of Abraham; all "men of faith are the sons of Abraham" (Gal 3:6-9); which now includes both Jews and Gentiles; which the Jews were not particularly happy with

3.ultimate fullfillment (Christ's second coming, new heaven and earth): spiritual descendents of Abraham "a great multitude which no man could number", a national throng " from every nation, from all tribes, and people and tongues" "standing before the throne"; his kingdom has finally come and they can enjoy all the blessings of His gracious rule

haha, okay that was totally part of my hw 1...hahaha...
i just read the section on Jonah, and it is sooo interesting. to see how Jonah was such an "unwilling prophet" and how he sooo did not want to share the gospel with Ninevah because Ninevah was full of incredibly corrupt people, and how Jonah tried so hard to run from God's mission for him, and how Jonah was actually angry with God because the people of Ninevah did repent. but throughout the entire process, Jonah was still thinking about himself, and how its so unfair to him that he misses the bigger picture of God's plan for His people. and for our reading it challenges us to think about how this relates to the church today. does this correlate with the Jews and the Gentiles? the Pharisees? hmmmmm......my reading says this "Jonah is the father to all those Christians who desire the benefits and blessings of election but refuse its responsibility" and also "If a person draws his lifeblood from the one greater than Jonah [Jesus], and yet declines to spread the Good News among the others, in effect, he is sabotaging the aim of Christ Himself" hmmmm, interestinggg?? but okay, thats my lil teaser to yall, haha i do not know all of it yet cuz i am still currently finishing the reading/hw....hehhee BUUUT anywayyyyss!! ummm... maybe i ll keep posting more, and maybe i ll start making more sense later, b/c right now im just typing a huge string of what i feel like saying but i hav no idea if it makes sense to anyone, oooh welll, buuut regardless, ppls TAKE THE CLASS! its funny cuz i wasnt even planning on taking it, but b/c henry was like, "all im asking is 3 hrs of ur day! come check it out cuz its free!" and i actually did hav 3 hrs to spare...hahha, but now i love it haha mmkay i jus felt like blogging, perhaps cuz this is still fresh in my head and am really excited right now, haha, but yeaa bak to readinggg :P
